Hopefully someone will have an answer:-
6 weeks ago I had my Joomla site moved onto an html/java template. Googles webmaster tools is reporting lots of error 404's, these are the old joomla article names that are now the current html pages.
As the joomla files have been removed any ideas why they are still being picked up? all these are supposed to be from my sitemap which is:-

Very simply: Google (and other SEs) have a long memory. The best way to handle "retired" files is to provide a 301 redirect for them which the SE's can pick-up and use to modify their database.
