For the past few weeks, I've been working on figuring out the best way to display product options for an automotive ecommerce website. What I'd like to know is how can I create selectable drop-down menus that correspond with each other? For example, on certain product pages customers select their car make, and a second drop-down menu will display the corresponding colors for their make. I've been through Magento and CS-Cart. Both offer many ways to incorporate options for products, including colors, etc... However, there has not been a solution that caters to this problem. Any suggestions?
This is an example of what I'm trying to implement:
http://www.autoaccessorystore.com/product/Bully-Dog-Triple-Dog-Gt-Diesel-Black/Default.aspx --> the "Select Your Car" make/model drop-down menus.
Americommerce does that and more. It allows you to do things like you see at the big box retailer websites where each option you check leads to more options and you can really drill down, like the sidebar menu you see at http://www.compusa.com/applications/Category/guidedSearch.asp?CatId=17. Every time you pick one thing, it narrows the selection of other things in the sidebar.
