Bear actions in photoshop

Hi !

I’m looking for a photoshop action, to convert photos from objects into more flatten images or illustrations like this:


(an Office Clip Art)

This is a photo of the original bear:

I got it into this one:

Not much difference… I used the Cutout filter for this one.
But do you people know how to get it more in shape like the Clip Art above?
Are there some handy actions or any tutorials?

  1. way: Before everything do some brightness/contrast adjustment (try to lose as much details as you can), then trace a bear outlines that you want with pen tool and fill inside with colour of choice.

  2. way: You can try with Cutout after you do some brightness/contrast adjustment.

It is hard to do clip art with software that works with pixels.

Hmm, no photoshop workarounds or mashups?

I don’t have Illustrator available right here at the moment.

And a Live Trace Option is not allowed on bears I guess.

Yep use Illustrator either with the automatic “live trace” option (try different settings) or manual retrace with pen tool…

Better try with Adobe Illustrator - live trace option.

Ok, I made an Action to make something that goes in the good direction…
It contains: gradient map, poster edges, brightness/contrast, cutout.

The problem is that you have hundreds of possibilities, you can combine them in hundred ways, and option has several settings…

But it’s not that round and smooth as I want, yet…

The action works on gnomes aswel:

Can’t do it in photoshop, but nice work. BTW less colours - better results
