I tried Kompozer but my Dreamweaver files keep saying "error" and won't open in Kompozer. Anything free that's very similar to Dreamweaver and stable and works well?

There are lots of nice, free alternatives. I recently listed some of them here, but the only rider is that if you have any DW-specific files (can't remember what they are called, but template files or whatever) you will need to redo that sort of thing.

Try sublimetext2, it's better than dreamweaver and lighter.

Aptana Studio is pretty damn good, and you can't beat the price.

Hi there. TextWrangler is a great alternative. It supports different programming languages and it is free. You can research online for more information on the pros and cons of different code editors.
