Check if email address is still active without sending email

Hi,

I have a list of subscribers I need to validate. I need to check if the emails in the list are still active, but without sending them an email. I have seen this done before but have no idea where to start.

Can you provide any feedback on the technical procedure to follow?

Doesn’t work for Windows if I remember correctly.

Some email servers will allow you to “query” (more or less) that an account exists or not. This used to be pretty common, but with all the spam problems, this has become fairly rare. Now you can’t really be sure without sending an email - and I guess even then you can’t be sure, depending on your definition of “active”.
