Content management system

Is CRM related to CMS or not?

Depends on what you do with them.

CMS : Content Management System, lets you manage the content on your website
CRM : Customer Relationship Management, lets you store, view and analyse information about customers, prospects and suspects

Some CRM’s are built to work with CMS systems. For instance civiCRM can be plugged into Drupal or Joomla CMS systems.

Generally when one refers to a CMS they are talking about a content management system that can be anything to anyone. A CRM is a step further in that it is a CMS with a direct focus like WordPress is a CMS with a direct focus on Blogs. Having a direct focus rather than being generic like Drupal or Joomla makes it possible to create a work flow that makes sense based on the business requirements of the end user. However, with a generic CMS generally the user has to adapt their work flow to fit one that has no specific context. This is what generally causes people to say something has a huge learning curve. In that using the GUI requires some technical understanding to achieve business goals. That can be said for both Joomla and Drupal. So in short a CRM is a CMS like a Human is a Mammal.

nope, sorry

CRM does not have to utilize a CMS

so a CRM is a CMS the way a fish is bicycle
