Convert*WMV to MOV

I am new to Macs, and definitely not computer savvy when it comes to formatting and such.

I have a wmv file (video and audio) that I’m trying to convert wmv to mov, but I have no idea how to. I dragged the file to the converter and it identifies it as a asf file (??).but I have no idea what that is. Love to anyone who can solve the problem!

Hi Alexbing. Welcome to SitePoint.

Do you actually need to convert the videos? What are you trying to do with them? If you just want to view them on your Mac, you don’t need to convert them. You can just download Flip for Mac to view WMV files on your Mac.

try this:

You need to download VLC player or MPlayer to play ASF and WMV files. You can download iMedia Converter for Mac. It converts ASF file to other formats.

Another option is you’ve got a windows PC handy would be to re-encode them from WMV to something a bit more cross platform like mpeg-4. Numerous tools can do this, I would start with Handbrake.

Try Zamzar

Hope it’ll help!

Handbrake is great. I have a client that needed to do the same thing. Handbrake allowed them to convert WMV’s to MP4 very nicely. http://handbrake.fr/
