cPanel >> How to generate self-signed certificate

Hello

I have a domain hosted on a webhosting on a shared server / shared IP with cPanel access (not WHM).

I wish to have https enabled for my domain so that i can open my domain in both the ways:

and

I believe if you use a self-signed certificate you do not have to pay anything to anyone.

I followed the tutorial at https://kb.uk2.net/web-hosting/how-to-setup-a-self-signed-ssl/

On that tutorial they have mentioned “STEP 10: On the page that loads you will then click on the link under Activate SSL on Your Web Site.”

But I could not find the “Activate SSL on Your Web Site” link on cPanel anywhere. Can u please help me do the same or help get achieve https for my domain?

Many thanks in advance

c10,

Welcome to SitePoint!

With the latest cPanel, look under Security then click on the SSL/TSL Manager link. You must go through the steps there to get your private key, server signing requests and installation of secure server certificates.

Of course, you MUST have a dedicated IP address and your host may have modified the cPanel you have been provided.

hi

thanks for reply.

can u pls explain why a dedicated ip is required and shared ip will not work in this case?

c10,

It’s a matter of security (for the SSL to work properly). You don’t want to share your SSL with a hacker, do you?
