this is really bugging me. In photoshop CS I used to be able to Ctrl+Left click on an any part of an image and it would select the appropriate layer. now in CS4 it selects the folder. This was a great shortcut in large complicated images. Is this a setting or something I can change?

when you select the ‘Select’ tool there is an option in the top menu bar called Auto-Select with a checkbox and a dropdown.
Change the dropdown to Layer and it will be the same as you had it before.
