How is it that a site can market itself as a news digest Web site and actually present entire news articles from multiple sites with attribution (but not the original images)?

Isn’t this infringement?

It’s only an infringement if the originators haven’t given permission for the site to use its material. It’s impossible to know whether that’s the case based on the information you have given so far.

No, the only way is to ask them. And, of course, they’re not obliged to tell you.

Just out of curiosity, why is this is an issue for you?

I’m curious to know this because 1. I have visited such a site and wondered how it can profit (through ad sales) from other sites’ material and 2. I have a digest concept for a site myself – if it’s legal and doable.
