Domain authority

For search engine purposes, what does domain authority mean please?

It’s a measure used by moz.com:

I don’t think it has any direct relevance to search engines.

Thank you.

For a search engine perspective domain authority is a major factor to calculate the strength of your website. It combined with 3 factors of out respective site such as age, size and popularity. It affects your link building, if you give a backlink to high authoritative site and it approved by them, then it count as a positive feedback for search engine regarding your site.

Search engines may use metrics to establish the authority of a website, but the term “domain authority” refers to Moz’s own metric. If you look for a domain’s “domain authority” score, it’s Moz’s calculation you see. It’s one way to try and gauge how well a site might perform in search engines, but like Alexa ranking and other metrics, it’s just a guide.

How search engines calculate the authority of a site is - like other aspects of their algorithms - known only to them. It’s possible to take an educated guess, but that’s all.

Okay, thank you.
