Freelancer expansion

Hi there,
I’m a freelance web designer and developer and I’ve been running my own business for two and a half years. Not very long, but I’m starting to find myself very busy and wondering where to go from here. I’d like to manage my business so it helps me fulfill my personal goals of travelling more.

I’ve occasionally hired a few sub contractors when I’ve had something I couldn’t do myself, or had extra work, but I don’t really want to be a boss. If I’m a boss then I end up having to do more email and phone calls and I don’t want to do that. I like being a designer.

If I keep growing, at the moment it looks like I have the following options:

  • Say no to more work (I can already say no to underpaid work and difficult people)
  • Hire
  • Work longer hours myself
  • Clients wait longer
  • Raise prices (already done this - it has worked to scare away difficult people)

Does anyone have any suggestions having been in a similar situation, or can you direct me to some good articles?

Thanks
