Nice question you asked. even i read the whole Wiki page of this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git_(software)) but didn’t find the answer of this question.

There is an Urban Legend that GIT stands for Global Information Tracker.
But I am certain that was concocted later.

According to Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux (which, according to Linus, is pronounced like ‘minute’ and not like ‘liner’), when he developed an SCM for the Linux kernel, he chose the name because in UK culture it represents [URL=“http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=git”]a very simple-minded person.

I think there is no expansion for GIT. I have searched for it but i can’t get it.

GIT is a not acronym. I never ever heard.

I hope full form of GIT…Glass And Instrument Technology…but not confirm.

There is no acronym for GIT there is only GITs which stands for Gastro Intestinal Therapeutic System.
