Good books for learning more-advanced ASP.NET 4.0?

Hi there,

I’m a relative beginner to ASP.NET 4. I know how to read it and write quite a bit of it but would like to learn more about connecting to and drawing information from databases, Cross Page PostBacks and transforming data from an XML source into other formats. I know most of this can probably be found online but I would prefer to work through some examples and exercises in a book as I tend to learn much more easily that way.

The book I’ve read most of my way through is Beginning ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB (focussing on the VB since that’s what my current workplace uses most of all) and have worked well through the exercises and picked up quite a bit. However, the topics I highlighted above are only covered in the Professional version of the ASP.NET book I’ve been studying and I was wondering if this really is the best next step or whether there is something which covers all of this and much more. Here is the book in question which is obviously referenced in my current book since their both published by Wrox: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-ASP-NET-4-C-VB/dp/0470502207/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1363891384&sr=8-9

One review seems to be particularly negative as it states that the book only covers the beginnings and skims over new material.

I checked out the Sitepoint Bookstore which has one book of interest, but again it only covers the basics rather than something more advanced and isn’t currently in print form :frowning: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/aspnet4/

So any ideas where to go from “Beginning ASP.NET 4”?

Cheers!
