Grids....question

Grids are a very good way to structure the layout of a site. Most of the times though I have seen its usage in blocks of paragraph text.

What if I wanted though to structure a time slot for example, which is just some digits and nothing else, not related in anyway with a block/paragraph of text.

Is the answer to use a MUCH smaller grid than usual?
