well tought time
its crucial period of my life.....
so trying to decide i should try to be very good programmer... ..or i should enter in business studies...
it has been 3 years now and things keeps on changing. It was simple php now its dot net ,flex, even in php cakephp, codeigniter more over oop php...
so one need to be very clear about career...
so one factor is money i can make in future...or future of programmer itself...
so i am able to be good php programmer(oop code scripts...make cms and all) as a programmer what is maximum do you think a php programmer can make...
as a business man i think we can see bill gates, founder of google etc(who are more business man rather than programmer..)
may be only php is have heard of make lots of money is founder of facebook...and some others
and these are optimums and what about normal scenario...
hope u will help in these big question

Becomming the next Bill Gates or Zukkerburg (or however you spell his name) is as much about having a good, original idea (or stealing one) as it is about technical skills.
If you are looking to become an employee and work as a PHP coder, you can earn a lot, yes. But there is a lot of competition. In order to get a top paid job you need to have many years of experience and a lot of examples of your work.
I don't think you can really "train" to be the next founders of Google.

I always find these type of questions quite amusing, I really think people need to see beyond the language they code in and more about the logical and programmatic skills they apply to any given problem.
A solution can be coded in any language, but how successful it it is, whether from a monetary point of view or a functional one, depends on how well the solution addresses the problem.
How many times do you hear people who are REALLY good at something say they are lucky they do something they enjoy? They are not lucky, they are good because they spend more time than you or I doing it because they enjoy it, not the other way round.
Code is code, pick one you enjoy doing, pick one you think of when driving or eating a meal, pick one that won't let YOU go.
Hopefully you'll get your chance to be paid to do something you love too.

Since I am in a field that is my favorite that is computer (specially programming). So being a programmer:
- I don't aim to be business man and rich person countable in the world's top rich persons like Bill Gates, founder of google.
- I don't aim to be a top (famous/popular) leader that is countable in the world like G. W. Bush, Barack Obama, Saddam Hussein, etc.
- I can be a good faithful and trusted programmer and satisfy the client who gives me the work and get satisfied myself.
- I can aim to be a good coder (in any programming language, for now it is PHP) who develops the error free (as much possible as I can) projects.
- I can aim to be a project/team leader and earn more than being a junior/senior programmer.
- etc. etc.
So it is up to you that what you want to do and be in the future, start right now. Some people have become rich businessman who had started from a small retail seller. So frank1, how much do you expect to earn in your life and how much is your limit to earn. It is just to carry your life and fulfill your day to day requirements. So being a PHP Programmer you can earn (am earning) a lot. Don't ask others view to what to do next rather ask your mind and go with what it suggests which is your better choice.
This is my view. I don't know why you are asking these questions (big).

Ok thanks for your valuable thought...and please dont take it otherwise...its just how people feel and visualize their future....
well, from my experience being employer earns you higher than being employee....may be in earlier days (college days or when u start) you may think "oh i am making lots of money"....should one may not know real money...how much that employeers makes ....and esp the people in other fields with similar talent (or even less) makes ....or how much is the oppurtunity cost...if i dont program and do that ...can i earn more than this easily...these ?s comes...
any way u r right competition adjusts market price(along with supply and demand..) so what the optimum equilibrium point(salary in dollar) one can acheive in current market...
ok one may work in microsoft and put his whole life to program but his salary may never go above may be a max 100 thousand dollars.....so whats may be/is max in php programming now..
thanks for comments
ok i am not leaving people to decide on my fate...rather i am taking data from people so that i can decide right...programming is a global phenomenon...if the things were not outsourced ,may be in many country people would not have been programming...means they will not get right return(cost) for their work and they would have switched their works....so we dont know about global scenario....so when i think of being very good programmer...my vision may be working in some multinational php company in US(what i can think of ...max point for now)....or may be some most paid job in US...so what is that point...i was just curious to know....
when i was child i read one story about pandora box...then people dont have to work...they just sit/eat and relax....(then box was open...and people sorrow started..)
my point is,in this modern era every body wants to earn money....every body wants to be millionaire...if one only wants to be satisfied...one will get even better satisfaction in sprituality(helping others, just relaxing)....why to even bother about mvc, functions and all...so i think we are just trying to find a way to satisfy one self though programming....
and with this physical one needs money ,and every human in guided by it in way or other...just trying to say ...its not just about satisfaction...and one is not just programming to make his meal...(all things of luxury doesnt count here..)
so i was just trying to know the programming optima in different parts of the world...
i am employee and employer my self.....
(i have seen employeer who doesnt know any thing about programming and makes programmer do things and give 20% to programmer and earn 80%)
so if that is case why should one bother on learning and learning program construct to be best one...(if one is always is "to be used")
any way just what i feel....frank feeling

I am in PHP Programming from past three years and daily i face new challenges and problem where i feel oh i still need to learn this language.
About how much a PHP programmer make i would it depends on you not on the language.
For been a business man you need an IDEA and passion to make it work. If your IDEA is different and useful to the others you will surely excel high....i read many books and i have noticed this is the common thing in these biggies !!
Give a thought about this forum itself - The owner might have seen the days when no one was knowing sitepoint but today they stand in competition ...how is this possible ??? simple they had vision to excel high and constant determination to provide best content to their visitors .
i will recommend u a book - "Discover Your Destiny" by Robin sharma
whether you want to be a Programmer or a Business man it all depends on you .self belief is important. First ask yourself what you want ..... and then simply work on it sucess has to come to those who work for it.

thanks for suggestion in india...
any way it is not that i am not sure about my future....but i am trying to make sure that i am right with the facts and details...
as i said i even dont know how much a php programmer earns in normal in US,in europe or so on...
different people have different motivation...may be if as most people money is my motivation...i need to be aware of all the factors to get optimum point that motivated me......
for now i even dont know whats is optimum and wheather i should continue to work to acheive it or not...
In that course if i can earn much higher with out even knowing syntax and just using a programmer,as for my motivation i would be better not to program...
ok programming may be fun, passion for sometime...but in long run ,all things...many people program to get better life...to get standard life...if own mission is satisfaction only ...one can join some chruch and get divine pleasure..and satisfaction...
people dream coming to US ,it is much liked with economic prosperity and oppurtunity as it is with own satisfaction....otherwise why would one leave family in home country and goes to other...
and if it was only about satisfaction ,most php programmer would have just made software and given it for free.....(for living even paypal donation will do)
so the real question is what do you think is optimum point...(in may be in value....or economic terms)
any way thanks
its not me being confused about my future...its about information sharing...or fact collections

With development, that question is kind of like saying "how much can I make as a businessman?". There is no limit, and it all depends on you. An intermediate programmer just doing freelance work for clients? I'd say maybe $40/hour. If you become an extremely good developer, that can go up to say $150/hour, but to bill out at that amount you better know what you're doing.
Or if you start your own business, and develop marketable software that's in demand, then you can do quite well for yourself. It's alot more responsibility and work of course, but that's why you make more monies. If you're going to go that route though, I'd advise you to surround yourself with some good mentors who have already been there and done that. It'll save you a huge headache.

well thanks for some sensible information
any way how much do u think is the productive hour per day ?(means we cannot account 24 hour when we calculate total amount..)
so in average..how much do you think is productive hours for extremely good developer (hours that is paid..)

frank1 — 2008-11-13T08:20:52-05:00 — #11
ya but ...what ever the skill people might not work ...may be 13-17 hour per hour........hour wise nobody will be paid 24/24
