One of the ways to evaluate if your website has a link farm is to check its PR and check the number of backlinks. If you have a low PR or a 0 PR inspite of having huge number of backlinks, you may assume that there has been link farming done to your website.

You may use Google Webmaster Tools to check all the links to your website and choose those from link farming, or you may use any online tool of that kind you like - whether majesticseo, moonsearch or opensiteexplorer. Look through the whole list of your backlinks, check all them out, try to contact webmasters of those backlink farms you don't like and ask them to remove your links. If that doesn't help - try Google Disavow Tool. That's at least what I did.

Yeah, you can use Webmaster tools or look at some of the free services. My favorite is ahrefs.com, which shows "dofollow" and "nofollow" link distribution, which is a good indicator of link farming.
