In my experience, I find the best way to reach new people is through comments on your contact’s posts. Sharing is good, but it only lets your friends and original poster know about what you have shared. Likes are great way to keep connections and can possibly expand your network if you ‘like’ the comments of others in a post, but just liking a friends post–I don’t see how that expands your network. Same as retweets on twitter.

Moreover, shares and retweets may not post anything from you that your friends probably haven’t already seen elsewhere.
