How to update same table columns?

Hi all,
I want to update the same table.
like:::
earlier 4 columns are there in my table ‘example’ as::
col1,col2,col3,col4.
earlier i inserted data in these two columns col1,col2.
now based on column one, i want to update the table as::

set col1=‘new data’, col2=‘new data’,col3=‘earlier col1 data’,col4=‘earlier col2 data’.
means i want to move data from one col to another with new data and existing data…

Can any one help me regarding this?

SET
    col1 = 'new data'
  , col2 = 'new data'
  , col3 = col1
  , col4 = col2

based on the value of col1, it will update.
If col2 is set, that value will be as col4 otherwise col4 as null…

What?

means condition is if value is equal to col1,then it will update like::;;

SQL>update example
set col1=‘new data’, col2=‘new data’,col3=‘earlier col1 data’,col4=‘earlier col2 data’ where col1=‘some text’;


UPDATE example
SET
    col1 = 'new data'
  , col2 = 'new data'
  , col3 = col1
  , col4 = col2
WHERE col1 = 'some text'

So you want a query that updates when col1 = ‘ex1’, but not always the same columns, and not always with the same values?

You’ll have to define the exact logic the updates must follow, and then maybe it can be done in 1 query, and maybe not.

And showing some data that actually makes sense might make it easier to understand the problem. Unless this is real data of course :slight_smile:
