Inkscape?

I want to learn illustrator but dont have it or the money to buy it. How well does Inkscape compare to illustrator? Can the same quality and effect be achieved?

Ok I guess I have to see for myself

inkscape is great to get started as a beginner and learn the techniques of vector graphics and so forth however, it is no replacement for illustrator which is infinitely more powerful although, you could probably guess that as its infinitely more expensive

I would say go for it. Inkscape is a very capable program - have a look at some of the work on the Deviant Art Inkscape group.

I noticed this thread is pretty old - Did you end up giving Inkscape a go? how did you make out?

I find that I can use F1 and F2 keys to quickly create all my characters and designs very quickly. I do admit that I put the png’s into photoshop to give them a sharper edge and to sometimes optimize.

Depending on whether your job requires a professional level.

As much as I used. it works well for common tasks, At least

Never! Both of them are of different standards. So never expect same thing from both.
