Went head and bought sitepoint' build your own theme book(got it from amazon though, sorry sitepoint), so waiting on the speedy delivery.
was wondering has wp been used to build large, complex corporate business type site?
If so & you know of some really impressive examples, could you drop the url?
just wondering if for something like that it wouldn't be that good.

"Large" as in sites with a lot of content, or "large" as in a recognizable name?
A site can be as simple or complex as you want it. The thing about wordpress is that allows you to build a site that is easy to navigate.

Why does it take WP to build a site that is easy to navigate?

Usually, any CMS has this ability. However, I tend compare Wordpress with Joomla and Drupal, but their methods of page and navigation creation/management have always been clunky and unnecessarily complex.
