There are some good SitePoint books, and Digging into WordPress by Chris Coyier. But the WP site has an excellent "codex", which is very comprehensive and a good (free) option too.

Beginning PHP 5.3 by Matt Doyle
PHP Objects, Patterns, and Practice by Matt Zandstra
PHP Master by Lorna Mitchell, Davey Shafik & Matthew Turland
No matter how many books you use for wordpress, best way to get your self familiarized with wordpress, learn wordpress, and to know latest wordpress standards is to get informed on wordpress codex website. Its closest thing that can get you into wordpress.
I just read sitepoint's "Wordpress Anthology" book, and would recommend it. http://www.sitepoint.com/books/wpant1/
It's very clear and concise and explains the various aspects of wordpress quite well. Note, however, it's written for a beginning wordpress developer, rather than an end user guide of wordpress.
