Linking google verification to single page

I have a single html page
umcwales.com/plea
and I want to link a googleverification file it.

Google says upload it to umcwales.com/plea so it looks like this:
umcwales.com/plea.html/googled5e77e8838aee383.html

but how do I link a file to a single html page?

Just upload in the root domain only , do not upload the verfiication file into the sub folder
