Does anyone know of a wordpress plugin where i can completely customise and style the form in CSS, position it in a page with a shortcode or whatever, and it will automatically store email addresses and names of subscribers in a databse in such a way that my client will be able to compose emails in the wordpress admin area and mass mail everyone at once?

I don't, but I would suggest other options, like getting a CampaignMonitor account and using that service for the mailouts. Let them absorb the responsibility for mass mailouts, as that can make your own ISP twitchy. You can style the CM form any way you like. And you can set up email templates in CM that the client can use easily to enter content and send mail. You also get really comprehensive stats on the emails after they've been sent, too.

You can try this plugin: My Mail
I don't know anything about it other than knowing it exists. It has a decent crop of sales since late last year so it will be road worthy. I side with Ralph on this though and would look at Campaign Monitor or Mail Chimp. Even though they are external services they will link through to your Wordpress install, the biggest benefit is that mailouts is all they do. It is their speciality and they do a great job of both making it easy and avoiding all the traps that come with doing it yourself.
