When I began playing with blogging software over a decade ago, MoveableType was the ‘Bee’s Knees’ of the available options. AltaVista was the search engine of choice, and the majority of us had never heard the term SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Today, WordPress is a CMS (Content Management System), that is used to run a significant proportion of the world’s websites. Google is the dominant search engine and there are hundreds of millions of websites, so the trick is to be found easily. Few people venture beyond the first page of the search results in Google, so you more or less need to be there if you want to be found.
Be sure to use the latest version (>= 1.7.4) as there’s been a SQL vulnerability detected in this plugin (https://wpvulndb.com/vulnerabilities/7841). The plugin page can be misleading, as they provide usage data for the different versions, and one can think that using a former version could be recommended.
