MySQL woes

My MySQL installation has been acting up, and despite the Google attempts to find an answer, it seems my problem is specific.

I’m on a Mac; OSX Snow Leopard. Apparently when I upgraded last year from Leopard it completely mucked with my MySQL configuration. I somehow managed to get it working at some point in time (I don’t remember what I did), but I stopped the server to restart it, and… well, now it’s missing the mysql.sock file.

I have no idea why it’s doing this. I’ve tried reinstalling MySQL, the official Snow Leopard release, and I’m STILL getting the missing mysql.sock error.

All I want is a working copy of MySQL on my Mac, and even with a fresh install it refuses to work.

Please help!
