I have spent the last hour trying to figure out how to backup Chrome.
Everything I have read points to some button or feature that doesn’t exit in Chrome v 41.02272 on my Mac.

Chrome is a browser. It connects you to resources on the web. What is there to backup?
If you want to preserve your history or the cache you need to locate it in the filesystem and copy those folders somewhere.
But it is far more sensible to just let Time Machine (which captures the entire contents of the drive) keep it all safe for you.
