I agree with you. I think that is a ridiculous claim. If anything, it would strengthen a java mobile platform. Because you do not need to learn another language to dev for it. Plus, old blackberry OS apps were also written in Java

Yes, I don’t think Java will be going away anytime soon.

Maybe “applets” are now rare, but the potential use of Java is much broader than merely web apps.
eg. televisions, appliances, control systems. etc.

TBH I don’t think the market for Java has been destroyed, And though perhaps it’s use for web apps has been diminished (much to shareholder’s chagrin) the claim is a wee bit exaggerated.
