This is the first site I have built. It was done for a friend and it started as something and evolved into something more. I am not that skilled at web design, but I would like you guys to look it over and tell me where it needs improvement. The Landing page is simple because that is kinda what she wanted. But I do not know if that is a deterrent from the site or not.
The site is for LGBT (non pornographic) so be forewarned.

Interesting concept. May be too much red and black but looks unusual ... and one more notice - I can't see whole image when I move cursor over the menu buttons. Images that appear are out of my screen resolution!

I think black represents something we oppose or dislike. Since this is a community supporting LGBT, light colors would be preferred. But this is entirely my opinion adn is left to each person's taste. Other than that, the site design is excellent.

No offense but the landing page I would call ugly at best... I'd leave it the second I see it because I'd think it is about ten years old and noone cares about it...
I will not give any tips here because I think the landing page has to be created again from scratch - from concept to design to code.
And if I follow one of the menu items I can't get back to the landing page to explore the other areas... taken as a whole the site is very confusing as every menu item takes you to a third party script (which mostly doesn't look that bad but the missing CI and the absence of a "home" button really annoys me).
Please ask for advice in the forums

Hi! , I'm currently reading 1984 by George Orwell and this landing page reminded me of that book.
It looks scary. The image of the star with the puffy red thing and the black background is just too much. I'm not sure what the goal is behind that so I don't want to offend but most forums I visit look more neutral. (light background colors, and more colors for navigation e.t.c )
I would keep this appearance as the homepage (http://www.badgesociety.com/forum/search.php) In there you have a left aligned smaller logo of what the forum is as the header with the navigation under it. It gives me a better sense of where I am and where to browser to.
The layout for the home page you have know looks antiquated. I don't see many sites with a few nav buttons on the left
and a big logo on the middle. I see small nav and logos with content that tries to get people's attention. I would go for that!
Don't be discouraged though!, Just make the visuals more welcoming to people.

Ditch the landing page. I know your friend wanted it or whatever, but it looks really bad and serves absolutely no purpose. If I visited your site a lot, I'd be really annoyed by it. Can you imagine if every time you wanted to do a search on the net, you went to Google.com and it was just a landing page and then you had to click on a link for "search"?
Also, I don't know what it is about new web designers but they always make these massive, over designed buttons like you have on the landing page. I did it myself when I was first starting out. If you have to keep the landing page, at least do something with the buttons.
I agree with the others that the site sort of has a "scary" feeling to it. It's not only the colors, but the font and the logo. It looks like it should be a gaming site.
When I clicked on blogs I was confused. I was sort of waiting for content to load and nothing ever did. After a second I realized that there was a navigation bar I was supposed to be using, but it wasn't immediately clear.
Hope my comments help. Don't get discouraged, we all start somewhere!

FIrst impression was that the site is much too dark for my liking, however it may target your userbase.
Your copyright is smack dab in the middle of your content. You need to move it down some. And oh wow, moving over the sidebar (which is too spaced out, I'd lessen it personally) that popup is much too massive for my liking. It basically was like a punch to the face. I do like how you give a preview of the next page but make the size of it a bit smaller. It was intimidating.
I'd also make your FB/social media icons a different color. It wasn't until my final look of the site that I even noticed it. I'd give it some sort of contrasting colors to make it noticeable.

yes i to agree with the others...the first impression of your website is not appealing...it might be possible that they may leave your site withiin a few seconds because of its color combination are not soothing to eyes..its to dark..you may use some bright and attractive color designs...apart from this navigation bar should be highlighted more...otherwise it is good.

I would like to echo everyone else...
The website look scary! I don't want to fear something that's already looked-down upon.
Also, I really don't like the large hover images. I haven't seen anything like them before, and instead of being innovative, it turns out obnoxious.
If that's going to be your homepage, there should be more content, rather than just a redirect page.
The twitter and facebook icons look cool, but they don't fit with the theme.
I think you really need to just rework your theme. Use an inviting color scheme.

The home page is really busy, yet there isn't much in terms of content. It took a while to get a sense of what the site is supposed to be--it's an online community right?
The slider is way too big and kind of unnecessary. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't care for sappy, sentimental messages. I don't want to visit a web site just to be told to "hang in there." I want something more constructive than that (or at least inspirational).
If the site is supposed to be a collection blogs and forums, why not highlight this fact on the home page an updated feed of recent/popular postings?
Also, the colours on the home page are way too nonsensical and Powerpoint-ish.
I don't mean to rip apart your work, but I think you need to really simplify things.
Ask yourself this, "What am I selling?" Now try to figure out the simplest and most direct way of conveying that message. Then build from there and see how much stuff you can add before it starts to feel unnecessary. Perhaps you could build a simple, plain page with a message explaining the purpose of the site with a few links to the various sections.
P.S. What CMS are you using? I'm surprised you didn't use Wordpress.

What you saw was a work in progress booruguru . And still is.
The original has been scraped after I showed these posts to the owner.
