Question about Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way

I’ve just registered. I bought Ian Lloyd’s book Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way and only on page 7 I’ve been stuck the last three hours trying to “download the free NoteTab.” I got allsorts and each time there were snags and missleading offers of a free download only to end up being asked to get out the credit card. I got HTML-Kit for free, but that was really scarey when I thought of how I might relate with it to Ian’s tutorial. Perhaps the book’s quite old now. Anyone got any suggestions as to where to find what Ian wants me to use, please? He says, "Go to http://www.notetab.com/ and there it will be. But there it is not to be got as far as I can see. Help, please.

Hi BigWaveSteve. Welcome to SitePoint. :slight_smile:

I haven’t used NoteTab (I’m a Mac user) but the download process looks fairly simple as far as I can see. If you go to the Downloads page, you have the option of clicking the big red Download | Lite button, or you can click the link a little further down that says “NoteTab Light (full)ZIP: 1.8 MB”.

Have you tried either of those options?

There are many other free code editors out there that may be better anyway. A few I know of for Windows that are very well liked are:

NotePad++
NotePad2
DocPad
Crimson Editor

HTML-KIt is fine so is Notepad++ though the link for Notetab: http://www.fookes.com/ftp/free/NoteTab_Setup.exe the other versions of ‘Notetab’ are trials and probably are NOT worth that amount money when you can get far better open source or other editors for free.
