I want to use wordpress to teach a class.
I want students login to post their homeworks for different assignments.
Any suggestions for plugins or a good way to set this up?

I don't know if Wordpress would be the best place to start for something like this. What you're looking for is something more "application-based."
I would recommend looking at something more along the lines of Moodle : http://moodle.org/
Or this one, based on the Drupal CMS: https://elms.psu.edu/
If all you need is a way for students to submit assignments, then I would just use Google Docs, or have them email them to you.

That sounds just about one of the worse things to use wordpress to build. Could you – probably but it would be faaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from ideal. If you look hard enough there are probably open source content management systems out there for that specific business goal.

I don't think WordPress is the right choice. But still you can achieve average results through it. Depends upon your necessity and privacy too.

I suggest you used another social media site.
Why not create a group for your students in your facebook account or other social media sites.

Well I think the main part of this project that is more then just a static information page is
- A section for students to post an image of themselves linking to a their class website
- A section for students to submit assignments (basically an html based site which can be seen on this site)
