hi, i'm sure this is an easy fix,
trying to get rid of the black background around the smaller pictures in the slideshow.
can anyone help me please?

I would set display:none for each of the lower layers.

cool thanks, just wanted to change the black to no background,
managed to do that but it turns out that the black was hiding the previous image in the slide show. Ive changed the black to a 50% transparent white so
that you can see what i mean.
how would i have a transparent background whilst stopping the previous image from being displayed?

Do you want to get rid of the black background by changing the color or maximizing the image to fit the space? If its the former, the slideshow script sets background:'black' in several places. You would need to change those...
