Great thread.
It seems to me that you guys are regulars on the web and have a very good understanding about stock photography.
I am from Cape Town, South Africa (on the very very Southern tip of Africa! 
) and need some advice.
I have compiled the work of a number of African photographers into a website.
I am now in the process of communicating and promoting it on the web. The images are high quality and vary in prices from 2Euro to 100+Euro. We have lots of wildlife pictures and landscape pictures. We have also allowed people to use the images for free in return for a trackback link.
Does anyone have any idea on how to generate traffic for the site and get it known in the communities that use pictures?

Thousands of Free Stock Photos - http://www.freerangestock.com. Commercial use ok, high res images, searchable by keyword.
And all you photographers, there’s an AdSense revenue sharing program.
This is more of a color site then a photography site per se, but the two go hand in hand and their blog always has beautiful pictures:
