You could also use hammer.js and hook it up with the slider. The nice thing about hammer.js is it doesn’t have any dependencies on existing libraries. I would agree that it is best to stay away from abandoned code unless there is no other option given business constraints. Though I don’t know much about the state of TouchSwipe so won’t comment on it further in that respect.
