Video on mobile devices - iPhone, Blackberry, etc

I am currently designing a mobile version of my website. On my website, I have a bunch of videos in .fla format. Correct me if I’m wrong, but mobile devices don’t seem to be able to play such videos.

I noticed that Youtube videos work on most mobile phones, and Youtube also uses .fla videos. Does anyone know how to play .fla videos on mobile devices? Or do I need to convert them first to a different format?

How can I play videos on my mobile website the same way Youtube mobile does it?

hmm, ok, thanks. Seems like I will have to convert the videos to mpeg/mp4. Do you know if I should resize the videos aswell, or will the smartphone take care of that?

With the iPhone unable to play anything in a Flash format, I would seriously advocate not using FLA / FLV / SWF within something you want to play globally.

Better to link to an MP4 or MPEG file and let the phone work it’s mojo… or have a mechanism in place so the Flash has a fall-back mechanism.
