I’m not technical so go easy 
What are some of the common analytics packages used in applications? I’m just going through the Google Analytics developer docs and I’ve just seen that the Google Analytics Tracking Code, ga.js, works with any web page or web application that can execute JavaScript.
Does this mean I can track analytics of on a password protected application as well as the marketing site?

I also like you when I construction my site. I looking for in network and now I using web analytics open source : Piwik. Very easy install and use. That is program track real time.

With analytics online I use StartCounter and Clicky . They give me good result.
But I recomended you use one of them because if you use more, speed your website slowly.
