I was reading the news and clicked on one link that took me to a page with a pop-up authentication message in FireFox.

Is this website a scam?
It looks fishy…

The widget is between these 2 in the mark-up but isn’t showing. It might be a “member only” thing that’s poorly designed I guess.
In any case, I personally would ~not~ enter anything nto the form.
You can trigger that behavior pretty easily if you aren’t careful with file permissions – that will happen by default in IIS if the web reader doesn’t have access to the underlying file for example.
