What is the preferred method of dealing with TLD & ccTLD pointing at a common site?

For sake of conversation lets say I owned apple.com but I also owned apple.co.uk (which surprisingly they don’t).

If I wasn’t interested in creating a region specific site at this time, but wanted to reserve the right to do so in the future what would make the most sense in dealing with this?

Is it better to just redirect the apple.co.uk site to apple.com or should it be redirected to apple.com/uk/ ?
