What is this called?

What do you call it when someone swipes their badge/ID to gain access to a secure area (e.g. Front Door at Work) and someone else slips in behind them??

There is a name for that, and for the life of me, I can’t remember what it is called.

I want to say “Door Surfing” but that isn’t it. :-/

Thanks,

Debbie

[FONT=verdana]Hi Debbie,

I believe this is known as piggybacking (source).

Door surfing is actually surfing on a door (source).

Oh, great, thanks for helping me figure that one out!!

(It looks like it might also be called “Tailgating”??)

Oops, okay, that wasn’t it!!

Thanks,

Debbie

[FONT=verdana]Ah, yes. Now you mention it, I’ve heard it called “tailgating” too.

Thanks again!

Debbie

Tailgating is driving with your car’s nose up the ass of the car in front. Or somebody doing it to you.

In the US, tailgating also often refers to having a picnic/party out of the rear of your vehicle in a parking lot before attending a sports event.

In answer to Debbie’s question though, it is a word for when someone “slips” in behind. Piggybacking is when an unauthorized person follows an authorized person inside with the latter’s consent.

Good catch!!!

Thanks for clarifying things!!
