I was doing a search for a business and it turns out their url begins with www8. What the hell is that? I thought it had to begin with the standard www.
What does this mean and how does someone go about getting that kind of domain?

Basically, WWW8 is a subdomain of a website.
Examples of subdomains are http://images.google.com/ and http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/.
They can be used as methods of sharing categories between a site without having to bother about folders. Im not sure, but i think it can also be a method of sharing bandwidth and storage across multiple servers.
An abbreviation of “World Wide Wait”?
www (9 sylables)…the only acronym that takes longer to say than the phrase it represents…
hmmmmm
