I would say to definitely use article directories to increase your backlinks, however, it would be better for you and the search engines if you only submit unique and useful articles to each directory.

Wrong! Did you not read the second post? It is common and accepted knowledge that article directories are completely and utterly useless.
This will do absolutely nothing for you. The reason the front pages of these directories have such a high PR is because they’re leeching off of article spammers. Your article will get no traffic and Google are likely to completely disregard it.
Submit article is the best way to increasing your site traffic and also helpful for increasing keywords ranking.
