which we have to prefer more if we want to get more traffic for our own website?
b)social networking sites
I think it would be better for your seo if you use all of them. Why do you want to choose one of them?
All of these are good but can't ignore forum posting.
You can't really rely on any one of them unless you know something amazing that I don't know. In any case, paid traffic like Google PPC campaigns have been a proven way to get traffic for years. They aren't as effective or affordable as they used to be in a lot of the niches I've worked in and I am by no means an expert at it.
That said, I have a bias for seo because I have experienced some truly remarkable results by simply focusing on long tail keywords. I don't know too much about seo but I know enough to get ranked for what I need to.
In fact, one blog post a few days ago go my contacted by the company I wrote a review for and they are sending me a token of their appreciation in the mail.
That is something that never would have happened had I not been targeting long tail keywords.
I use social media mostly for fun. Not for web traffic.
I do get some web traffic from it though.
I think you should do all of them. Also you should keep in mind that the links and posts must keep on increasing steadily over a period of time instead of a spike increase in them. So that there's always some fresh content. Since fresh content is ranked higher up in the google search.
I notice this a lot with my blog posts. I'll often outrank old content on the first page half a day after writing a few articles focusing on long tail keywords and upload a few videos linking back to the same content. It seems to work like magic.
It's a little trickier to stay up there when you aren't producing as much content.
I need to focus more on some of my keywords.
I know of someone who swears that blogs have helped in increasing traffic...but I think this would depend on the topic.
A blog is all or part of a website. Do you mean adding a blog to a static site?
This depends on the type of website that you have, what type of audience that your website is targeting and where are your audience hanging out on the Internet.
There is no "do this and get more traffic" formula. You have to answer the questions above, test out different tactics for each of the mediums and continuously measure whether the results you are getting are worth the efforts. Also, if the website that you are driving traffic to is a business website, then you shouldn't be looking for a way that drives the most traffic, but a way to drive visitors that are the most likely to become a customer.
From my experience, unless you are offering a very cool product or service with raving fans, you will need great or at least useful content in order to do well on bookmarking sites and social networking sites. As for directories, they are slowly going away. Only submit a site to a directory that is well-branded or widely known among the community that you are trying to target. Directories built for SEO are basically on their way out.
Using all of them without doing your homework will cause more harm than good. Spammers tend to submit all the pages on their websites to all the social bookmarking, social networking and directories on the Internet. I don't think this worked for them.
Well I was not talking about performing spam by submitting all site's pages to social bookmarking and directories. The question was that which we have to prefer more if we want to get more traffic for our own website? and there were three options
b)social networking sites
and according to me choosing one option doesn't help with getting traffic or rank. we need to perform all these methods with accordingly required time. you said right that it depends what kind of site and audience we are targeting, but if you look from the top doesn't matter which kind of site which you have you have to perform all those three methods mentioned there. Social sharing of content is necessary if you want to get traffic and engagement, it doesn't matter which kind of site you have. There is every kind of person active there on social networking site. So we just need to target them according to our website's need.
I think for traffic you should consider and social networking and for generating back links you need to focus on directories and social bookmarking.
Hope this would help,
This forum is for discussion of Social Media Content. We don't discuss SEO here. Please see the forum Announcement above the forum threads as well as the guideline stickies marked Important at the top of this forum to find what is acceptable here and what is not.
I prefer social nets, they are more up to date, btw, bookmarking sites are also social nets like stumble
everything counts, you need to have presence in directories, social media, article directories etc.
When it comes on promoting products, the traffic coming to the site purely depends on the product niche. If the product can be used by general user, it will be getting a lot of traffic from social media but if the product can't be utilized by general users, the traffic will not be as much as we expect. The best option to get more traffic is to participate in related groups and forums for better boost of targeted traffic.
Forum posting is one of the more efficient SEO strategies, even no-follow forums. These tend to be the less crowded, and even though you're not given an official incoming link, it's still worth a lot to be there.
But you see, this discussion is about content, not SEO. So the question is what is the best way to get PEOPLE to your website and there are many ways to do that besides attempting to tempt search engines.
Since the OP has not returned to comment on his thread and before it becomes repetitive and a fluff magnet, it's best to put it to bed.
