I built this site for a client and it works great in all browsers except IE 7 and 8. I haven't tested it in 9 but I'm guessing it will be the same. It seems to take forever for it to load and most of the JQuery effects seem to be stuck. It's like the entire site is stuck in quick-sand. I don't get it, I've never had this problem before.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does it make any difference if the background image is removed?

I see in the timeline that something is constantly painting a 31x31 image. That's the progress indicator.
Is something constantly trying to load but not succeeding? That's the first thing that I'd investigate.

@SgtLegend, that is the first thing I tried and it had no impact. It is just as slow with or without the background image.
@paul_wilkins, how do I go about view the timeline so I can see the error you mentioned?
Why would this only happen in IE?

The timeline is soemthing that I was viewing in non-IE browsers, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
It could be that it's happening in all web browsers, but due to differences in browser performance, it's only noticeable in IE.
