Wp-comments-post.php is using an abnormal amount of CPU - any ideas?

Hi,
I have a VPS server which contains just two web sites. For some reason, the wp-comments-post.php file on one of these is using over 50% of the server’s entire CPU usage. Does anyone know why this is? I’m presuming this must be due to the site receiving a lot of spam but I have no idea how I can reduce the spam we’re receiving. How would it be possible to reduce this CPU usage?

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Best,
Russ

I had the problem a year or so ago and it actually turned out to be one of the plugins causing the problem. I’d start with wp-super-cache and cutting of the plugins. Are you running the same templates on both sites?

i had the same problem… i really advice to use this plugin : Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin

Most Spammers use anti Re-captcha system to mass-post comments… but this one use a Double Check box and it’s really Save my day !
